Going Green

Jane Hammond Events recognizes the need to be a part of the Green Economy.  Events can be wasteful of both food and resources.  We strive to minimize our impact ecologically by implementing the following responsible business practices:

  • RECYCLING

  • Jane Hammond Events recycles everything possible both in our offices, kitchen, and on site at events.
  • COMPOSTING

  • We compost all food scraps at our kitchen and all our events.  We use only compostable disposable products such as cups, silverware, plates, and napkins.
  • GARBAGE REDUCTION

  • Due to the all the recycling and composting, our events now create very little landfill garbage.  One small bag of garbage is our average for even our largest events.
  • WATER USE

  • We avoid buying water in plastic and use tap water whenever possible.  Our kitchen is fitted with low flow faucets.

  • SEASONAL ORGANIC PRODUCE

Our menus highlight each season’s crops so that we can buy locally grown produce.  We buy organically as often as possible, but recognize that sometimes a local sustainable product is the best choice rather than industrial organic.
  • SUSTAINABLE AND NATURAL POULTRY, SEAFOOD, AND MEATS

We avoid factory farmed meat and strive to serve meats, poultry, and fish that are sustainably and humanely raised.

We utilize the Monterey Seafood Watch as a buying guide.

  • CARPOOLS

Our staff carpools regularly, cutting down on our car use.  Each of the event planners works from home in order to avoid daily commutes.
  • FAIR TRADE

Our coffee and tea are sourced from fair trade roasters who support small farmers using sustainable agricultural practices.  We are proud to be working with Equal Exchange which specializes in small scale farmer empowerment, environmental sustainability, workplace democracy and high quality organic coffee, tea, and chocolate.  Check out www.equalexchange.com for more details.

  • RESPONSIBLE PURVEYORS

We strive to source our bulk grains and spices from responsible businesses who supply local and organic products.

  • CARBON OFFSETS

We offer clients the opportunity to offset their carbon footprint by participating in carbon offset purchases from the non-profit Carbonfund.org.  Check out www.carbonfund.org for more details on the projects this money supports!

  • GREEN CERTIFICATION

We are currently undergoing the process to be certified green.

  • SUSTAINABLE DÉCOR

We offer creative solutions to cut down on wasteful florals.  We have sustainable centerpieces available for any occasion.

  • 150 MILE MEAL

A new service we are offering is the “150 mile meal”.  We have created menus for every season that use only ingredients made or grown within 150 miles of the Bay Area.  Ask our event planners about it today!
